Hello! My name is Christian Paxton and thank you for your interest in my work! A bit about myself…
I am a storyteller——drawn to narrative for how it links us to one another, our past & futures, and ourselves. From a young age, I wrote stories and plays, cast my classmates or siblings (thanks little bro), and performed them for friends and family. Since then, I have been on the hook…
I love stories and characters where contradiction exists and bold questions are posed. Art offers us a chance to reflect upon and deepen our humanity——and I believe as storytellers, it is essential we come to understand who we are, the structures of oppression around us, and how we hope to shape the world for the better. I also hold a passion for physical theater (like Suzuki, Viewpoints, and Lucid Body), and begin my work on any character with the somatic. Having gained my 200-hr Yoga Teaching Training Certificate, I believe in the power of communing with the body as a daily practice, especially for the actor.
In developing my craft as a performer, I have been fortunate to learn from some very wise teachers across the arts, academia, and less conventional settings——restaurants mostly (shoutout to my hospitality folks). My craft would be nothing without them. No story exists in a vacuum. Connection [love] is always at the root.
Today, I live in Brooklyn, New York and pursue storytelling on the stage and in front of the camera, as well as in community spaces and classrooms. I just completed my Master’s Degree in Applied Theater, and am interested in work where art, connection, education, social justice, and critical thinking are integrated.
